Celebrating the Season with Loved Ones: Sharing Care and Wellness Through Food

Author: Arlene-Frances Wu (Senior Nutritionist)
As the festive season approaches, gatherings with family and friends fill the air with warmth and joy.
However, for individuals undergoing medical treatment, this period can bring mixed emotions — comforting companionship on one hand, and psychological stress on the other.
Many may wonder whether they can safely enjoy certain foods or if they should avoid attending gatherings altogether.
In truth, the meaning of festive celebrations lies not in what we eat, but with whom we share the moment.
As family members or caregivers, we can thoughtfully prepare healthy, festive vegetarian dishes to express love and care — helping patients feel supported, understood, and warmly accompanied
For loved ones undergoing treatment, concerns about whether certain foods may be “unsuitable” or “affect their therapy” are common. In such cases, offering a “small shared bite” can be a gentle way to let them enjoy holiday flavors within a manageable portion.
Food should never become a source of pressure — instead, it can be a comforting and meaningful memory shared together.
